Effective April 1, 2013, the Louisiana State Board of Private Investigator Examiners (LSBPIE) will
begin enforcing the continuing education requirements as set forth in LSBPIE’s rules and regulations.
LAC 46:LVII.518-519. In order to qualify for a license renewal, every private investigator is required
to complete a minimum of eight (8) hours of approved continuing education every two (2) years.
Please note that although the eight (8) hours of continuing education is only required every two (2) years,
a private investigator must renew his/her license annually.
The deadline for completing the minimum eight (8) hours of approved continuing education is as follows:
- If the licensee submitted a continuing education compliance form for attending an approved continuing education course during the time that the continuing education requirement was suspended (September 2011-March 2013), the licensee may re-submit the continuing education compliance form to the board’s office at the time of the next license renewal and receive credit for the subsequent two years; or
- If the licensee did not complete continuing education during the time that the continuing education requirement was suspended, (September 2011-March 2013), the licensee will need to attend an approved continuing education course and submit the continuing education compliance form to the board’s office by the license renewal date in 2015.
LSBPIE will post a list of all approved continuing education providers on the LSBPIE website.
It will be the responsibility of each licensee to contact the continuing education provider for
specific details and course schedules, etc.
LSBPIE’s continuing education requirement is a minimum requirement. All licensees are encouraged to
attend as much continuing education as possible to further build their respective skill sets and develop
professionally.
REMINDER***ALL LOUISIANA LICENSED PRIVATE INVESTIGATORS MUST RENEW THEIR LICENSES ANNUALLY.
A MINIMUM OF EIGHT (8) HOURS OF CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT IS DUE BIENNIALLY, OR EVERY TWO YEARS.
